I used to be a Christian.
A devout one, at that.
However, I no longer fall under the "religious" category. I now consider myself to be Agnostic, meaning that I do not have enough evidence to prove or disprove the existence of (one or more) deities, thus I am not going to argue that there is or is not a God.
Today I was discussing with my grandmother how it sickens me the way people treat animals, but I am not against eating animals, as long as they were killed in a humane and non-painful manner. All of "God's Creatures" have their ways of eating, and humans just so happen to be omnivores. There's nothing wrong with killing other organisms for the sake of survival. Killing them for the sheer (sick) pleasure of killing them, or to sell their RARE AND ENDANGERED furs, skins, and bones is disgusting.
My grandma took it upon herself to say "God even skinned animals to clothe Adam and Eve, so there's nothing wrong with killing animals, as long as it's for survival purposes." I'm sure you can guess what part of that statement I agreed with, and disagreed with.
Now, I have NOTHING against her believing in God. I had a problem when, as we got further into the conversation, she said, "God is an absolute. The Bible states that he did that, thus it is true."
...This anime I'm watching says that Goku saves planets, and aliens exist. What's your point?
Please, you guys. If you're religious, or even non-religious, don't shove your beliefs down people's throats with your "absolutes" that you have no actual evidence to back up your statements with... you can believe what you want. It's GOOD to have beliefs. But don't force other people to accept what you believe because you're overzealous about it. Hell, I can't even express my sexuality open in real life (the fact that I am bisexual) without getting harassed about it because my entire family (including immediate and other biological relatives) are hardcore homophobic Christians that say "Liking someone of the same sex offends me because it somehow interferes with my life, and it's problematic!" Don't oppress people's personal preferences that have absolutely no bearing on your life whatsoever because you can't keep your offended, opinionated beliefs to yourself.
